A Quiet Summer

It's been a quiet summer here at SpursDynasty.com. Besides the signing of Ian Mahinmi, the release of Vassilis Spanoulis, Tony Parker's wedding and his play in EuroBasket (including 36 and 31 points against Italy and Slovenia, respectively), our Spurs have stayed out of the news.

It's been quiet because none of our players:We should consider ourselves fortunate to be Spurs fans.

While you're waiting for the season to start, check out Tim Duncan's interview in STACK magazine. It's insightful. For example, you might be interested in his answer to this question: "Did you look up to any basketball players or other idols when you were growing up in St. Croix?"

We just added a scoreboard widget to our site (top right). Enjoy it for awhile as it congratulates the Spurs on their four-game sweep of the Cavaliers in the Finals. And make SpursDynasty.com your home page for up-to-date scores once the season starts.

We'll be hosting another Fantasy League (or two) on Yahoo! and maybe NBA.com. Stay tuned for more details.

Until next time, enjoy the quiet before the storm -- 39 days until tip-off.

Vote for The Coyote!

San Antonio Spurs mascot "The Coyote" is up for induction into the Mascot Hall of Fame and currently leads New York Mets mascot "Mr Met." But The New York Post has thrown down the gauntlet, calling our beloved mascot a "wimp" and "mangy." Voting ends at 12pm today, so don't delay.

Click here to see The Coyote Highlight Video.

UPDATE: I just got off the phone with the Mascot Hall of Fame and voting has ended. As of yesterday, The Coyote led Mr Met by 13,000 votes, but the final tally was much closer thanks to some serious ballot-box stuffing by the New York Post. Here are the results:

The Coyote: 43,125 votes
Mr Met: 41,553 votes

My source at MHOF says that their Executive Committee will meet next week to decide whether one or both mascots are inducted. They hope to make their announcement live on ESPN.

Steve Nash on Tim Duncan

In case you missed it, Charlie Rose interviewed Steve Nash last week. Nash talked about his career and the NBA and gave thoughtful, intelligent and articulate answers to Rose's questions, including a few that might be of interest to SpursDynasty readers.
ROSE: Who do you admire? I mean, who has skills that stun you?
NASH: Well, as a point guard, I love Jason Kidd. I think he has a great feel for the game. And ...
ROSE: ... he can see ...
NASH: ... players. Great vision.
ROSE: He can see the court and the open man.
NASH: I love that. Great vision. And then as far as guys in general in the NBA, I think Tim Duncan is unbelievable. He's so solid, special as a winner and a team player.
Nash goes on to talk about how playing soccer as a kid helped him become a better basketball player, which I'll post later in the week. In the meantime, you can watch the interview for yourself. I wonder, could we successfully lobby Charlie to invite Tim Duncan on the show?
